Húsavík (Iceland)/Duisburg, December 2016. PCC is strengthening its social engagement in the Icelandic locality where we are building our advanced, environmentally compatible silicon metal production facility, due for completion in 2018. On November 19, 2016, our project company PCC BakkiSilicon hf, sponsor of sports club Völsungur, handed over 360 T-shirts to youth teams from Húsavík, the town closest to our site. The girls and boys expressed their thanks in a typical Icelandic manner: Having put on the shirts in club green with an orange PCC logo, they filled the sports arena of Húsavík with a Viking Clap celebration. The choreography of this Icelandic form of jubilation has become famous throughout the world ever since the nation’s soccer team returned from its thrilling performances at the recent European Football Championship, EURO 2016. However, it is even more spine-chlling when executed by children, as is eminently apparent from the video linked below.

The shirts were worn in earnest just a couple of days later, during Iceland’s National Volleyball Tournament – and with some success, too, for Völsungur youth teams brought home several trophies including a gold medal.
