Duisburg, April 24, 2020. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many manufacturers of PVC have cut their production due to declining demand and, as a result, also reduced their chlorine production. Consequently, the scarce supply of chlorine and the co-product sodium hydroxide or caustic soda produced in chlorine production has led to an increase in the price of these products, too. Additionally, in our MCAA business unit, there has been a bottleneck at a competitor since Easter, which also leads to a shortage and price increase of this product.
