Our intermodal container transshipment operations combine road and rail container transport to improve both environmental and cost efficiency

The mainstay of our Logistics segment is our intermodal container transshipment business. Our Group company PCC Intermodal S.A. is one of Poland’s leading private container logistics operators, offering pan-European transport services via five wholly owned transshipment terminals in Poland and Germany – facilities that have been significantly expanded and modernized in recent years (in the photo: our container terminal in Kutno, Poland). The company combines environmentally friendly rail and flexible road transport, with the cargo only being trucked over the final stretch between our container terminals and the end customer.

Compared to pure road transport, our combined intermodal capability enabled emission savings of 402,000 metric tons of the greenhouse gas CO2 in 2022 (previous year: 383,535 metric tons of CO2) for a total productive output of 3,237.0 million ton-kilometers (previous year: 3,088.0 million ton-kilometers).    These calculations are based on data from the European Environment Agency of November 5, 2015 for the reference year 2014.
