The erection of one of the world’s most advanced and environmentally friendly production plants for silicon metal in Iceland is the largest single investment project in the history of the PCC Group. Investment volume: some US$ 300 million (about € 265 million). The construction of the plant began in June 2015. It is one of the most advanced production facilities of its kind in the world. The commissioning took place in 2018. Once in service, the plant will be capable of producing 32,000 metric tons of silicon metal per year. The energy required will be taken 100% from renewable sources, mainly geothermal facilities. The feedstock – quartzite – will be mined in the PCC-owned quarry in Poland. This will extend our value chain. Our silicon metal will be mainly sold to German industrial companies, securing their raw material supplies.
